STEAM COAL

Steam coal is suitable for use in boilers generating steam. Mostly bituminous coal, it is used by electric and heating utilities but also industries such as cement producers and chemical industries. AlphaCarbon can provide steam coals from most leading supply sources. we can also assist in coal selection for specific boilers : spreader stoker boilers, fluidized bed boilers and pulverized coal combustion systems.

PCI

The direct use of injected coal replaces lump coke in the blast furnace, giving a major saving in total coke consumed per unit of liquid iron. Numerous coals have been injected including all volatile ranges, thermal and coking coals.

Coal is injected pulverized (PCI) or in granular form (GCI).

ANTHRACITE

A hard, black lustrous coal containing a high percentage of fixed carbon and a low percentage of volatile matter, anthracite is the highest rank of coal. Anthracite is used by ferroalloys companies and industrials as well as for domestic space heating. Alpha Carbon can supply anthracite in all forms (fines and lumps) from various origins.

DRY ANTHRACITE

Taking account of the steel-mill-specific quality requirements to be met by the moisture content, we can offer grained anthracite in an undried, air-dried or thermally dried state in different packaging forms. Anthracite is used in particular as feed coal during the melting process in electric steel mills, as heat-transfer medium to correct the proportion of scrap in oxygen steel mills or in lime shaft kilns.

COKE

Also called lignite coke (by opposition to petroleum coke) The main features of this type of carbon product are:
• low moisture content,
• low companion-element content, eg sulphur, nitrogen, hydrogen, phosphorus,
• basic ash,
• large specific surface and/or high porosity,
• fast reactivity.
Thanks to these special properties, even high-quality carburizing agents can be substituted which are used in the production of premium quality steels

SOFT COKING COAL

In response to the need to lower coal costs, coke producers worldwide have learned to use poorer quality coals in their mix. Several classifications have appeared: "weak coking coal", "soft coking coal", "semi soft coking coal" which basically cover three main types : high ash hard coking coals, high ash high volatile coals with poorer coking properties or mixed blends of overall poorer proterties.

HARD COKING COAL

Coal suitable for carbonization to make coke for steel manufacture. Used primarily by integrated steel companies and merchant coke producers, these high grade coals are sourced in North America, Australia, Poland, Russia and China. AlphaCarbon can provide the entire range of these products, including Low Volatile, Mid Volatile, High Volatile Coals.
